Emily Throndsen, our librarian, is creating an exciting summer literacy opportunity by opening the library weekly for a “Reading Road Trip” across five regions of the United States. Each week, students will explore a different region through themed activities, displays, games, and carefully selected books that highlight the culture, geography, landmarks, and stories of that area. This creative approach encourages students to stay engaged in reading throughout the summer while making literacy fun and interactive.
The library will be open for two hours each week on Tuesday from 10-12, providing students and families with consistent access to books and learning opportunities in a welcoming environment. Emily’s goal is to inspire a love of reading while helping students maintain and strengthen their literacy skills during the summer months.
To motivate participation, students will have opportunities to earn prizes and rewards for reading and completing activities connected to each region. The program will build excitement week after week as students “travel” across the country through books and experiences.
At the conclusion of the Reading Road Trip, students and families will celebrate their accomplishments with a fun, old-fashioned ice cream party. This celebration will recognize the students’ hard work and encourage positive connections with reading, the library, and the school community.
